The University of the District of Columbia Community College (UDC-CC) is seeking enthusiastic and qualified part-time instructors interested in teaching. First Year Seminar is a unique transition course designed to facilitate integration into UDC-CC's learning community. The aim of this course is to enhance skills for academic success, develop understanding of community college culture, provide individualized academic advising, and foster meaningful educational engagement. The course also encourages active participation in the community college and to post-experience reflection. Classes will be scheduled to meet once a week Tues-Sat. Classes will be scheduled to start as early as 8:00am and end as late as 8:20pm, T-F. Saturday classes may end as late as 3:30pm.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach all assigned classes and hours not to exceed 10 credits, as determined by the semester course schedule.
  • Provide and plan instructional activities to include, but not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects.
  • Adhere to scheduled office hours for student conferences one hour per week.
  • Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance and grades in a timely manner (records are in an electronic format).
  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning while establishing and maintaining classroom control.
  • Attend all meetings, ceremonies and official functions as specified by the Chief Community College Officer and/or Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • Adhere to the University policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics, student and staff conduct.Minimum Job Requirements:
    • Master's Degree in Social/Behavioral Science or related discipline.
    • At least one year of teaching experience.
