Brief Description of Duties:
This position reports to the Chief Student Development and Success Officer and serves as an integral member of the Division of Student Development and Success's leadership team committed to supporting student development. The position also provides innovative leadership, and oversees the management, planning, administration, and evaluation of student development programs and services. The incumbent fosters a holistic collegiate experience at the University of the District of Columbia and has the responsibility for the creation and implementation of the data tracking and maintenance of all student development policies, procedures and recommendations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provides leadership in the design and implementation of the Division of Student Development and Success' initiatives to include student retention, leadership, campus life, safety and diversity.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates student development programs for operational success of the academic community, and provides oversight and management of Student Life, Judicial Affairs, Multicultural Affairs, Residence Life, Student Center and Veterans Affairs to ensure continued improvement.
  • Provides leadership assistance to enhancement to the areas of student leadership development, student activities to include student governments, clubs and organizations, student populations, international programs, and co-curricular programming.
  • Provides metrics and creative solutions in regard to student development.
  • Utilizes strong analytical skills including data gathering, analysis, assessment and evaluation, and evidence-based planning.
  • Manages and participates in continuous program evaluations and improvements; assists with the development and implementation of appropriate assessment plans; an effective assessment system for assessment of operations; and, goals to include processes for feedback.
  • Integrates the function of the Division of Student Development and Success in a manner that is responsive to student needs, the campus and the community.
  • Develops and manages the applicable budget to ensure appropriate fiscal management and compliance for adequate program and services support.
  • Formulates and enforces policies and procedures regarding student development; develops and present recommendations, reports and other materials for a variety of programs and projects.
  • Researches, establishes, and oversees the planning and implementation of activities and services for student development program components and promotional strategies to include student involvement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • A master's degree or equivalent from an accredited academic institution in Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, Higher Education Management, Student Affairs Administration, Student Services, Counseling, Behavioral or Social Science or a closely related field; PhD preferred.
    • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in the field of Student Development required; experience in higher education preferred.
    • Demonstrable evidence of the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators and a diverse student population.
    • Proven record of collaborative leadership and commitment to student success.
    • Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office, and other related software packages.

      Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit.
