Job Description:As the Washington National Tax Office (WNTO) Practice and Procedure Tax Manager, you'll monitor IRS developments, judicial decisions, and other guidance to meet the complex needs for your GT tax practice and clients - all with the resources, environment and support to help you excel. You'll collaborate with the WNTO practice and Federal Tax Controversy group on all phases of project and engagement management, because together is how we succeed. From day one, you'll be empowered by great technology, processes, and a collaborative and thoughtful team to continue to extend your technical knowledge, work across new projects, and help you achieve more, confidently.Your day-to-day may include:Researching, addressing, and consulting on technical issues specific to IRS practice and procedural issues including tax, penalty and interest assessments, statutes of limitations, missed elections, and IRS examination and IRS appeals mattersSupporting in-depth tax law research and analysis to support the leader of the IRS Practice and Procedure practice and other colleaguesPreparing written communications to the IRS, including penalty abatement requests, private letter ruling requests, and ProtestsWorking with other WNTO groups on IRS practice and procedural issues that affect other technical matters (including required consultation matters), such as corporate taxation, partnerships, international tax, mergers and acquisitions, and due diligence matters, and prepare any needed internal documentation relating theretoAssisting in resolving tax controversy disputes, including matters under the IRS centralized partnership audit regime (e.g., organizing and drafting responses to Information Document Requests)Supporting the development of training materials and other thought leadership to educate and promote awareness, among Grant Thornton professionals, on a wide variety of issues to include IRS practice and procedure issuesKeeping Grant Thornton professionals apprised of significant legislative, administrative, and judicial developments in the area of IRS practice and procedureOther duties as assignedYou have the following technical skills and qualifications:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/universityFive years of practice and procedure tax experience at a law firm, Department of the Treasury, IRS Chief Counsel, or CPA firmPreferred: Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPAIf not CPA eligible: Licensed attorney, Enrolled agentStrong understanding of IRS operations, its procedures and its processesExcellent communication, public speaking, research and writing skills requiredRelated IRS experience preferredAbility to travel as needed.
