Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Medical Director of Imaging Services,
prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals in
diagnostic studies, performs nuclear medicine, and position
emission tomography (PET) and computerized tomography (CT)
examinations of patients as requested by referring physicians.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Greets patient, confirms image to be taken, explains procedure
to patient, and is sensitive to patients anxiety about
procedure.
- Explains the procedure to patients, assures safety of patients,
reviews images to confirm that they meet requirements of
Radiologist, and prepares files and reports as required. Utilizing
efficient and safe processes and performs related technological
functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality and patient
care.
- Reviews patients medical history prior to performing Nuclear
Medicine and/or PET-CT procedure.
- As prescribed by a Physician, performs diagnostic studies on
patients, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect
radiation emitted and to produce image of organ digitally or on
photographic film.
- Under the general supervision of the Physician, prepares stock,
solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and
administers doses.
- Positions patient on examination table and monitors patients
condition during examination.
- Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scales and
scintillation detectors. Calibrates equipment.
- Follows Radiation Safety techniques in use and disposal of
radioactive materials.
- Controls and adjusts CT equipment to assure that images meet
requirements.
- Maintains equipment and examination room, and keeps inventory
of related supplies.
- Maintains proper documentation for internal and external
Regulatory compliance.
- Performs other related duties as directed.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of continuous recent experience in nuclear
medicine required for new hires.
Education
- Graduate of a certified/accredited ARRT program required.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Specialized training in Nuclear Medicine required. License,
Certification, Registration
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate -
Nuclear Medicine Technologist OR American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists Certificate - Nuclear Medicine Technologist within 6
months of hire from Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate -
Computed Tomography within 6 months of hire
- Basic Life Support Additional Requirements:
- Maintain technical competency through continued education and
participation in company sponsored training programs.
- Demonstrated ability to perform all procedures and processes as
determined by the employer.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short
correspondence, and memos. Ability to walk simple
correspondence.
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group
situations to customers, clients and other incumbents of the
organization.
- Required to stand, push, pull and lift patients.
- Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with
constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20 to 45 minutes at a
time.
- Must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or
department without affecting departmental flow.
- In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective
interpersonal skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at
least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see.
- May be required to lift objects heavier then 50 pounds, perform
difficult manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination skills,
walk and stand for prolonged periods, see objects closely and hear
normal sounds with some background noises.
- Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
- Knowledge of customer focused service requirements of the
organization.
- Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with members
and coworkers.
- Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years of continuous experience as CT
Technologist performing positron emission tomography examinations
preferred.
